WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF SLO COUNTY UNDOCUSUPPORT?
The purpose of SLO County UndocuSupport is to provide financial relief to meet immediate needs of San Luis Obispo County immigrants and their families that have been excluded from federal COVID-19 relief assistance.
Immigrants, many of them undocumented, do essential work that sustains us all. In the state of California, the undocumented represent 10% of the workforce, and paid approximately $2.5 billion in state and local taxes in 2019.
Immigrants are among those who have been hardest hit by the impacts of COVID-19. The national $2 trillion relief package for COVID-19 left out undocumented immigrants. It remains unclear whether future national relief plans will include immigrants. And although Governor Newsom announced in April that the state is providing some funds for relief, it will not be nearly enough.
Please join us in our efforts and donate as generously as you can!
WHO ORGANIZED THIS EFFORT?
A collective of nonprofit social services, humanitarian, faith-based, philanthropic, volunteer, local public sector leaders and advocacy organizations and individuals working with immigrant families came together in the midst of the COVID-19 emergency to build and lend support to immigrant families who have been severely impacted by the crisis, yet excluded from many of the relief programs.
WHAT IS THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION DISASTER SUPPORT FUND?
The Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County is a county-wide community resource for charitable giving since 1998. In response to the recent COVID-19 pandemic, The Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County has opened its Disaster Support Fund and has waived all administrative fees to maximize the impact of the donations. Through the Disaster Support Fund, grants are being awarded to local organizations such as food banks, the ECHO Homeless Shelter, Peoples' Self-Help Housing, and the Noor Foundation, to provide direct support to vulnerable community members during the COVID-19 emergency.
WHY DONATE THROUGH THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION DISASTER SUPPORT FUND?
At this time, donating to The Community Disaster Support Fund is the most expeditious and least costly way to accept donations and get funds into the hands of immigrant families in need. By using existing structures and agencies, we are avoiding the time and money it would take to set up a dedicated separate funding mechanism.
The end goal of SLO County UndocuSupport is the establishment of a permanent UndocuFund. With this first step, we will demonstrate both the need among undocumented residents and the community’s willingness to financially support our undocumented neighbors that will lead us to our goal of the creation of an independent fund.
HOW ARE THE FUNDS DISTRIBUTED?
Two established and trusted local nonprofit organizations, Center for Family Strengthening (CFS) and Community Action Partnership of San Luis Obispo County (CAPSLO) have been designated to apply for grant funds and to distribute the grant monies they receive from the Disaster Support Fund directly to eligible immigrant families countywide. Only 8% of the funds will go toward agency administrative costs such as staffing, accounting and oversight.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR SUPPORT?
Undocumented immigrants, including mixed-status families, who are residents of San Luis Obispo County and who have experienced the loss of housing, job, or income are eligible for assistance.
WHAT IS THE REFERRAL PROCESS?
A simple application process will determine eligibility and need. CFS and CAPSLO will initiate the process with individuals and families who are referred by other local agencies and organizations, as well as families with whom they already work.

WHAT IS THE ACCOUNTABILITY AND OVERSIGHT?
The Community Foundation, CAPSLO, and CFS have rigorous reporting and oversight systems in place including annual audits. In addition, CAPSLO and CFS will report directly to SLO County UndocuSupport regarding the details of how families are being assisted.
